Happy New Year 2019

Translation of a historical announcement originally published 2018-12-31.

Dear users,

As you may have noticed, in recent years we had hardly treated you as valued users. Support messages sometimes went unanswered for a year, and some problems took months to resolve. During that time, our releases focused exclusively on critical fixes. The previous major update, which introduced automatic exchange rates, was released in 2015. That was also when the previous blog post was published.

HomeMoney was more than ten years old. Much had changed during that time. In the early years, people expected a desktop application rather than an online service. We invested a great deal of time in bank integrations, and initially fewer than five percent of users used them. Paying for mobile applications and online services later became normal. Users entrusted us with information more than they trusted many banks that opened and closed during those ten years. We ran the first years as a sprint; eventually our resources were exhausted, and the service became a zombie.

During the preceding years, I considered several possible directions: selling HomeMoney, making it a closed service available only to existing users, or developing a separate business version. No, we were not closing. I was studying how the service could survive for the next ten years: how to preserve what was valuable, remove what was unnecessary, and find a sustainable development model.

Prices had recently changed. The “Forever” subscription was no longer available, and discounts had been removed.

Our immediate task was to restore bank import as quickly as possible in January 2019. Providing bank import to customers with a “Forever” subscription was expected to be difficult, and no decision had yet been made.

Thank you to everyone who supported us over the years, and I apologize to everyone affected by service problems.

You could contact me at igor.andreichyn@gmail.com, although our support forum was the better channel.

Talk to you soon!
